What is Operation Lahar?

The name Lahar means "wave", and it is a type of mudflow or landslide composed of pyroclastic material and water that flows down from a volcano, typically along a river valley.

The Puyallup River Valley where our little town rests is located in the shadow of a beautiful monster. Its actually a volcano called Mount Rainier. Our little town called Orting is one of the closest towns to Rainier and has two rivers that flow on opposite sides of the town that like to overflow when we get more then our usual amount of rain. This volcano is considered very dangerous although it has not erupted in a long time. The town of Orting is considered to be the most geographically unsafe town in America.

So what is "Operation Lahar"? The youth group of Orting
Communtiy Baptist church desire to follow the command of Christ of proclaiming the gospel or the "good news". (If you want to know this good news check out our "Are you lost" page.) Just as the Lahar from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens shows the destruction and power that can happen in an instant, so we also want to be obedient and show the love and power of God as HE uses us to bring a powerful wave of truth through this valley and beyond.

Please continue to follow our adventures as we strive to set an example of what a God fearing youth group and church is all about. Operation Lahar is "standing fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel" (Phil. 1:27). We covet your prayers.
